Chobe and Victoria Falls: The Perfect Southern Africa Combination

Why Combine Chobe and Victoria Falls?

Chobe National Park and Victoria Falls are just 75 km apart — making this the most naturally combined safari and wonder-of-the-world pairing in Africa. Victoria Falls (the world’s largest waterfall by combined width and height, at 1,708 metres wide and 108 metres tall) and Chobe’s extraordinary elephant spectacle complement each other perfectly: the Falls for natural drama and adventure activities, Chobe for pure wildlife immersion. Most travellers do 2 nights in Victoria Falls and 3 nights in Chobe as a combined 5-night experience.

Victoria Falls: What It Offers

  • The Falls themselves: Best viewed from the Zambian side (Livingstone) during low water (September–January) when you can walk on the rock shelf; best viewed from the Zimbabwe side (Victoria Falls town) during high water (February–June) for the full spray and thunder effect.
  • Adventure activities: White-water rafting on the Zambezi (Grade 5, one of the world’s great rafting experiences), bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge, helicopter “Flight of Angels” over the Falls, sunset cruises on the Zambezi
  • Wildlife: Victoria Falls National Park and the adjacent Zambezi National Park offer game drives with elephant, lion, sable antelope, and giraffe

Logistics: Combining Chobe and Victoria Falls

The transfer between Kasane (Chobe gateway) and Victoria Falls is straightforward:

  • By road: 75 km, 1.5 hours via the Kazungula border crossing. Cross from Botswana into Zimbabwe (or Zambia via the new Kazungula Bridge). Most lodge concierge services arrange transfers.
  • By air: Charter flights between Kasane Airport (BBK) and Victoria Falls Airport (VFA) — approximately 45 minutes. Available on request.
  • The KAZA UniVisa: Citizens of many countries can purchase a KAZA UniVisa (USD 50) at either Victoria Falls or Kasane that covers entry to both Zimbabwe and Zambia — convenient for the Falls combination.
